This course is aimed at those already leading computing in their schools. If you're new to leading the subject you may wish to engage with our 'New subject leaders of secondary computing course'.
Topics covered
- Addressing the needs of each pupil – In this section, you'll explore how to make your computing curriculum more inclusive. You'll learn about adaptive teaching strategies, including scaffolding, and discover approaches to reduce cognitive load to support pupils with SEND.
- Developing staff – By the end of this section, you'll be able to evaluate the computing skills and knowledge of your teaching team. You'll also understand how to build an effective team and plan targeted support to enhance teaching capability.
- Leadership & management – During this section, you'll analyse your department’s impact and focus on maximising outcomes. You’ll explore how to use data strategically, recognise the roles of teachers and middle leaders, and plan effective, workload-efficient interventions.
- Department action planning – During this section, you'll develop your own department action plan, reflecting on what you've learned throughout the course and how you'll implement strategies within your own environment.
