Empower your students to excel at the Digital Futures Virtual Careers Fair

The Department for Education’s Unit for Future Skills suggests that digital skills are critical to the future of most jobs, while the Department for Culture, Media and Sport found such skills required for 82% of all jobs posted online. It's therefore crucial to give your students an opportunity to explore their future in digital careers.

With our Digital Futures Virtual Career Fair, running from 4 to 8 November 2024, you can inspire the next generation of technology innovators and help your students explore exciting career opportunities in the UK’s digital and tech sectors.

Accessible anytime, anywhere with just a computer or tablet, this virtual fair eliminates the barriers presented by in-person events and effortlessly integrates into your classroom. It allows all students to participate, saving you valuable time and resources.

Why should you encourage your students to attend?

  • To aid them discovering the digital landscape: The fair will feature approximately 20 exhibitors from across the UK, including CISCO, Siemens, and UKIE and Arm, each providing valuable content to inspire and inform your students. Each exhibitor will have access to a wealth of resources that will help them understand the diverse opportunities available within the digital and technology sectors.
  • To support their future decisions: The fair is designed specifically for those aged 13 to 19. Your students will gain valuable insights into the skills most in-demand, learn how to highlight their strengths, and discover available support systems that can guide their career journeys.
  • To foster a space for them to engage with industry experts: The virtual format of the fair will allow students to connect with industry professionals, engage in discussions, ask questions, and learn from the experts about the current and future landscape of technology careers.

Why should teachers attend?

  • It's flexible and convenient: The fair runs for an entire week, from 4 to 8 November 2024, offering ample time for you to include it into your day-to-day classroom activities. Students can participate at their convenience within this window, allowing you to plan sessions that fit your curriculum and timetable, as well as for students to take part during breaks and after school.

These materials can be accessed and reviewed multiple times, allowing your students to revisit information as often as they like. You can also use these resources to support lesson plans or career guidance sessions, enriching your teaching materials with real-world content.

Make the most of the fair with our workbook

To ensure students have a meaningful experience at the virtual fair, we've developed an accompanying workbook packed with targeted activities. This resource helps deepen their engagement, reinforces key takeaways, and provides a tangible record of their career plans. It’s a useful tool for you to guide students through the event and ensure they make the most of it.

The workbook includes opportunities for:

  • Structured learning: The workbook provides a structured approach to exploring the fair’s content. Each section of the workbook is aligned with the different aspects of the fair, guiding students through specific activities. This structure helps students focus their learning and makes the fair's extensive information more manageable.
  • Interactive activities: Our workbook includes a variety of interactive activities that encourage active participation. Students can reflect on what they’ve learned about different careers and how this information aligns with their own interests and aspirations. Also, students are prompted to set personal career aspirations based on the information and insights gained from the fair, providing the opportunity for reflection and goal-setting.
  • Boosting critical thinking: The workbook encourages students to think critically about their future careers. By analysing and evaluating the information presented at the fair, students will be better equipped to make informed decisions about their career choices, they will have the opportunity to compare different careers and create employer profiles.
  • Facilitated teacher-student interaction: The workbook can serve as a valuable tool for facilitating discussions between teachers and students. Use it to guide classroom conversations and group discussions. You can review completed workbooks to assess students’ understanding and provide additional support or guidance as needed.
