Inspiring the future: pupils explore tech careers with TCS

On 13 June 2025, the 44th floor of Tata Consultancy Services’ (TCS) Pace Port in central London became a launchpad for ambition, creativity, and discovery. Fifty enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 pupils from schools across the city joined us for a special I Belong event: a Careers in Tech Day aimed at opening young eyes to the possibilities of a future in technology.
The day began with wide eyes and awe as students took in the panoramic views across London’s skyline. But the real excitement started once they were welcomed by TCS’ CSR Executive, Kiera Noonan, who introduced the pupils to the scale and impact of TCS and its mission to use technology to drive change across industries.

From design thinking to app creation
The event revolved around TCS’ flagship STEM education programme, GoIT, designed to introduce students to the real-world application of tech through the lens of Design Thinking. Armed with a creative challenge, 'How could technology improve safety or sustainability in their local community?' the pupils worked in teams to create an app concept.
They brainstormed, collaborated, and crafted storyboards to map out how their app would function and look, before presenting their ideas with confidence and flair. One pupil described the experience as “so cool” adding, “Designing an app was fun and I’ve never got to do that before.”
Another said: “Today was such a great experience to properly understand the jobs and what it’s like presenting your ideas.”

Real role models, real impact
After lunch, the focus turned to people. Pupils were introduced to a diverse group of TCS role models and Computing Ambassadors, from platform engineers to recruiters and engagement managers. In a fun guessing game, pupils tried to identify each professional’s job before embarking on speed networking sessions. These short conversations provided a unique opportunity for students to ask questions, learn about different career paths, and discover the skills and journeys behind the titles.
The role models clearly left their mark. As one child put it: “My favourite bit was talking to the role models—I got really inspired and I learned lots of facts about everyone.” Another said: “I want a job at TCS!” and “Now I want to be a Design Engineer.”

Measurable impact, lasting Inspiration
By the end of the day, confidence was sky-high. Many pupils rated their computing confidence at 9 or 10 out of 10. One student noted: “My confidence was like 3/10, but now it is 7/10.”
The facts they took away also showed the depth of learning, from discovering that over 500,000 people work at TCS globally, to understanding how coding, sustainability, and creative thinking all play a role in modern tech careers.
For some, the experience reframed their futures: “I still want to be an artist but now also an engineer. I learnt that being good at art is useful for this job.”
What could have made the day even better? More time with role models and extra presentation practice, some said. But many answered simply: “Nothing!” and that is was “Perfect!”
The Careers in Tech Day was not only about learning, it was about belonging. It gave every child the chance to see themselves in a tech role, to meet professionals who looked and sounded like them, and to believe that they, too, could shape the future.
Thank you to Tata Consultancy Services for hosting an unforgettable event and to every inspiring role model who helped make it possible. The future of tech is in good hands, and it might just start with a storyboard.
