Celebrating inclusion and creating impact with student events

Exam season is slowly but surely creeping up on us, and students will soon be locking in to revise for their GCSE and A level exams, trying their best to excel in the everchanging subject. While many learners opt for digital revision, such as test questions and mock exams, the value of live interaction as a complement to traditional methods should not be underestimated.
Across the National Centre for Computing Education and Isaac Computer Science, you’ll find a whole host of student events, that put students at the heart of computer science – whether it’s in teaching/reinforcing knowledge, or showing them how a career in computing is open to anyone, our virtual and face-to-face events are a must-attend for those looking to upskill and expand their community of computing champions.
Isaac Computer Science Online Student Booster Events
Spring term is the perfect time to revisit material expected to come up in exams. Whether it’s traditionally more complex subject matter or topics you taught at the very beginning of the academic year, Isaac Computer Science offer tailored subject knowledge booster events to suit every class size, theme, and stage across GCSE and A level.
“I thought the event was amazing, it was a lifesaver. The teachers teaching the sessions today were amazing and taught the topic in a way that everyone could understand and follow. They regularly checked that we were keeping up which was really nice.”
This is what one student had to say about our most recent Booster event, with one teacher remarking that it was “the best initiative [they’ve] ever seen in the educational sector”.
Additionally:
- 91% agreed that the sessions developed or refreshed their understanding of the topic
- 90% agreed that the sessions will positively contribute to their studies
- All teachers agreed that the sessions developed or refreshed students’ understanding of the topic, strengthened students’ confidence in the topic and will positively contribute to students’ studies
It’s clear to see how these online events provide valuable opportunity for students to consolidate their knowledge, boost their confidence, and gain fresh insights ahead of their assessments.
Coming up soon, we have:
‘I Belong in Computer Science’ Events
As part of our industry-leading I Belong programme, which strives to encourage more girls into computing through evidence-informed resources and training, we are proud to also deliver a multitude of free student events. With options both face-to-face and remote, there’s something for every student across key stages 2 and 4.
“Each element provided the students with something to think about! The students got to see a campus, they got to experience a lecture theatre, they got to be in a lab, they got to see what a lecture would be like. They got to see Computer Science at a higher level”, one teacher explained.
“Hands on practical problem solving in a room of like-minded girls helped very much for students to build confidence and normalise girls’ problem solving and coding”, another teacher remarked.
The events clearly demonstrate their power in reaching girls and fostering a sense of belonging. They also raise awareness of the many opportunities in computer science that girls may not have previously explored or been encouraged to pursue, making them an essential addition to your teaching.
Coming up, we have:
No matter where you are based, or what content your learners are struggling with this exam season, we offer an event for everyone.
