Home teaching week 11

Hello! It's the penultimate week of our home teaching programme and, as always, we are here to support students of all age groups and abilities to learn about computing.

If you need something from the lessons explained or clarified, the timings for our live online Q&A sessions can be found on each key stage's homepage.

Key Stage 1

  • In this week's fun activity, your child/children will learn how to make judgements using the mini mission activities. Five activities are available including WWW, being a critic, my daily workout, a new healthy sandwich, and being an engineer.

Key Stage 2

  • Scratch Pathway 1 - By completing this week's activity, you will learn how Boolean operators work while creating your own painting programme!
  • Scratch Pathway 2 - Learn how to develop computer games! In this project, you will learn how to create a game in which you have to save the Earth from space monsters.

Key Stage 3

  • In our Cybersecurity unit this week, you will compare security threats against their probability and potential impact to organisations, and learn how networks can be protected from common security threats.
  • Python Programming Pathway 1 - Learn how to use data structures: by completing this activity, you will create a dictionary of colours which maps hard to remember colour codes into friendly names.
  • Python Programming Pathway 2 -  this week, you will read data from a file to create robot trump cards. Then you can play Robo-Trumps with a friend!

  • Do you want to change the world? Our new Digital Literacy course is a good place to start. In this unit, you will develop a deeper understanding of information technology and digital literacy by using your skills to create a blog post about a real world cause that you are passionate about and would like to gain support for.

Key Stage 4

  • Basics of Python Programming: explore the basics of Python through a weekly online course where you'll learn to code your first program. This week, you will explore how to use iteration to repeat within your program.
  • Algorithms and advanced Python programming: take your Python skills further through a weekly online course. You’ll discover how to break down problems into smaller parts, and then design and apply algorithms to data. This week, you will explore the linear search algorithm.
  • If you are a GCSE student transitioning to A level, get started with the transition topics on our Isaac Computer Science platform! The third lesson in our series is Representing characters. In this lesson you will learn how character (letters, symbols, numbers etc) are represented using numerical binary codes and ASCII (including extended ASCII) and Unicode character sets.
  • Join our Object-Oriented Programming course. This is a super fun course where users can make objects in Python and create their own adventure game!

Key Stage 5

  • If you're an A level student, why not join our scheme of work on Number bases and algorithms? It's great way to keep things fresh in your mind for next year. This week's lesson is about searching algorithms. You will learn about the complexity of bubble and merge sorts and how these sort algorithms work when sorting items in a list.
  • We are also running our Object-Oriented Programming course again. This is a super fun course where users can make objects in Python and create their own adventure game!
