Embedding Isaac Computer Science in the classroom

It can be a challenge for educators to balance lesson planning, marking, and delivering engaging lessons. Fortunately, Isaac Computer Science has resources available to help save time for teachers and enhance the learning of students.

Time saving

Designed to support GCSE and A level students and teachers with high-quality computer science resources, Isaac Computer Science offers comprehensive, exam-board-aligned support and content which covers key computer science topics.

Teachers using Isaac Computer Science save an average of 3.7 hours per week, and a majority claim the platform to be helpful in reducing their workload, according to the Isaac Computer Science 2025 Annual Survey – highlighting the platform’s ongoing value in supporting high quality teaching and impactful student learning across English state schools.

The website features a multitude of tools for teachers and students – like the gameboards, which can be custom made through the Question Finder. Gameboards contain questions from relevant topics, designed for different stages, different exam boards, and different difficulties. Assign these gameboards to students as revision or as homework - and save time on marking.

Student aspirations

The Isaac Computer Science 2025 Annual Survey demonstrates key insights into the platform’s positive impacts on students. 65% of teachers claim it helps students tackle more challenging or complex problems, and 38% say the platform inspires students to pursue further study in computer science. Students' understanding of the material is tested and reinforced through engaging with over 1000 questions found with the Question Finder, and through GCSE programming challenges – where students complete tasks matched to the topics they have studied.

Teachers also agreed that Isaac Computer Science supports the development of career-relevant skills and understanding of real-world computer science applications. With Computer Science Journeys on the Isaac platform, students are able to learn more about real career opportunities, through examples of how people use computer science in their day-to-day lives.

There is also a dedicated careers page containing videos explaining specific topics and how they are implemented in job roles. This page links to the Student Events page, free online events for students, helping with revision and understanding, as well as Discovery events linking to career possibilities.

Teacher assistance

When logged in on Isaac Computer Science, teachers can access GCSE or A level suggested teaching orders. These are written based on specifications for exam boards, recommending an effective path through the material, especially useful for teachers who are new to the subject.

Another guide available to teachers is the GCSE revision plan, designed to be used with students to encourage their revision long before their final examinations. The plan is intended to be set weekly from the start of the year, with a defined schedule able to be adapted to each school’s own structure.
