New to computing - Spring into the Computer Science Accelerator Easter 2021
CP250 Face to face course
This Easter, use the 'new to computing' pathway to upskill and develop confidence in teaching up to and including GCSE computer science.
The ‘new to computing’ pathway provides subject knowledge enhancement for new to computing teachers, up to and including GCSE Computer Science.
Whether you’re looking further ahead to September; if you’ve recently qualified as a computing specialist teacher; or if you’re looking to add computing as a second specialism this pathway will guide you through a supported introduction to computer science. Over a period of two weeks you will develop your GCSE Computer Science subject knowledge leading towards recognised certification.
You'll be supported along the way by experienced teaching professionals, among a group of your peers. You'll participate in live remote CPD and mentored online CPD on-demand. With a choice of course options available, you'll become confident in supporting students of GCSE computer science, including those currently studying the subject and the highest achievers. You'll take-away ready-to-use and successful teaching approaches from experienced teachers, supported by the latest research and evidence.
Over the two week period, you’ll choose two of the three remote courses listed below (you’ll be asked to make the choice nearer the time of the sessions):
- Introduction to algorithms, programming and data in GCSE computer science
- Introduction to computer systems, networking and security in GCSE computer science
- Python programming constructs: sequencing, selection & iteration
A bursary is available upon completion of the CS Accelerator programme - for information see this page.
By completing this pathway you will:
- Diagnose any computer science subject knowledge deficits, and fill any gaps.
- Develop detailed knowledge of the Computer Science GCSE and its expectations of students and teachers.
- Gain certification that recognises your subject knowledge.
